OpenSPOT Tp-Link nano router model # TL-WR702N Setup

I'm having an issue getting the Tp-Link nano router model # TL-WR702N to see my openspot device.
I've gone thru the instructions on router but I think I need someone to walk me thru the procedure on setting up the router correctly. I want to use this in my mobile with iPhone. I can get the iPhone to access the routers web interface but when I have the openspot connected to router I have red LED flashing on status trying to connect. I think I just may not have router set correctly.
Any help very appreciated.

Make sure your TP-Link is set to Client mode. If you didnt use the assisted set up mode on the TP Link, make sure your iPhone hotspot name and SSID for the TP Link to use are exact (case sensitive). Do you get the blue indication bar of a connected device on your iPhone ? My iPhone requires the TP link to establish connection with the iPhone before I can plug OpenSpot into the ethernet cable. Hope this helps.

I have created a cheat sheet for the TP-Link that may be helpful to those connecting to an Open Spot. If you have confused the unit you may need to do a reset first.

TP Link (Nano travel router WR802N) Set-up for use with a SharkRF Open Spot.
The TP-Link is a wireless router which can be configured in five different modes of operation (refer to the Quick Installation guide). The default mode when new (or if the unit has been reset) is the standard ‘Wireless Router’ mode of operation. For operation with a SharkRF Open Spot it needs to be configured to ‘Hot Spot Router’ mode*. In this mode it will pick up a wifi signal and re broadcast it as a separate wireless network connection. It will also provide a wired connection to the Open Spot via the LAN port.
1. Turn a computer or tablet and search for the Wireless Network connection called ‘TP-Link xxxx’. (Note: xxxx is the individual SSID printed on the back of your unit)
2. Connect your computer to this network.
3. The password to access the TP-Link router is an 8 digit pin number which is printed on the side or bottom of the router). Your computer should now be connected to the TP-Link unit.
4. Go into the web browser and type
5. The TP-Link page should open. The user name is admin and the password is also admin (all lower case)
6. Click the Quick Setup button then select Hot Spot Router mode and then click next.
7. The WAN connection type is Dynamic IP
8. Press the ‘survey’ button to populate a list of available wireless networks.
9. Select the Wifi service you want to connect to. (Note: It can be your home wifi, phone or other wireless hot spot).
10. Enter the wifi service password and then click finish, then reboot.
11. Note: after the router reboots it is possible that your computer may default back to another wireless connection because it loses the connection to the TP-Link router during the reboot process.

Resetting The TP-Link
If the router gets confused the connection to the Telstra wifi unit drops out or wont connect. In this case the router needs to be reset.
1. Remove all cables and then re-insert the power cable.
2. Using a pin to press and hold the reset button. It may take up to 10 seconds but you will notice the LED start blinking faster as it resets itself to factory default.
3. When the unit has been reset it will default back to the standard ‘router’ mode of operation. It now needs to be reset to the ‘Hot Spot Router’ mode. Go back to the top of page and follow setup instructions.

*The TP-Link can also be set up in ‘Client’ mode (see Quick installation guide) but in this mode it won’t redistribute the internet wirelessly - only make it available via the LAN port.

Since using the TPLink with the IPhone personal hotspot the iPhone hotspot will serve as a wifi access point to the internet for any othe device that you might need, I see no purpose in using the hotspot mode on the router. I have always stuck to the KISS (keep it simple stupid) principle so I use the client mode and it works well for me.
